Experience and interests

I am an applied statistician with particular interests in industrial statistics, experimental design, survey design and analysis and quantitative research methods in the social sciences.  I have extensive consulting experience, having had contracts with, among others, Hewlett-Packard, British Gas West Midlands and Land Rover.  Work for government departments includes consultancy for the Department of Transport and research methods training for the Department of Work and Pensions.  I have also delivered training in advanced statistical methods for the operational Research Society.

In addition to a large range of undergraduate and master’s-level teaching, I have developed and taught courses in research methods for doctoral students for Warwick Business School, for the Faculty of Social Science at Cardiff University, and since 2002 at the University of Gloucestershire.  More recently I have developed an interest in the application of statistical methods in sports science research.  I am also currently working with Professor Terry McNulty of the University of Liverpool on a large-scale survey of boards in UK companies.

I am a past Council member of the Royal Statistical Society, and past Chair of the Society’s Quality Improvement Committee.
