As part of an independent review of the Effectiveness of the Council conducted by Dr David Fletcher, it was recommended that a review of the academic governance of the University should be undertaken. This work has been conducted by an external consultant, Mr Mike Miller, and has included:
- a review of the operation, membership and effectiveness of the Academic Board and its principal standing, deliberative committees;
- an analysis and review of the relationship between Council and the Academic Board;
- an examination of how the Council can/does assure itself that there is an effective framework, overseen by the Academic Board, for managing academic quality and standards, and
- an assessment of the Council's effectiveness in meeting its role set out in the Articles of Association of determining the educational character and mission of the University.
