The Counselling Service offers short term counselling (up to 6 sessions) to all members of staff of the University.
Staff seeking counselling should either email our Administrator: counselling@glos.ac.uk or call ext. 4542 for an appointment.
You will be offered an assessment session which will explore your needs and ascertain whether short term counselling will provide you with the most appropriate support. If so then your counsellor will arrange to meet with you once a week for the duration of the 6 session contract.
If outside referral would be deemed more appropriate, especially regarding longer term counselling, then we will direct you to private/low cost practitioners.
What the staff counselling service can help you with
Clients bring a variety of issues to counselling. The process provides you with a supportive, non-judgemental and confidential environment in which to explore emotional, psychological and work related issues that may be impacting on your overall sense of well-being.
Confidentiality
Our counselling teams’ practice does not differentiate between the categories of client seeking counselling when considering the issue of confidentiality. We are bound by the BACP’s Ethical Framework to treat all encounters with our clients as confidential and will not disclose any aspect of the counselling process without the express written and verbal permission of the client.
In exceptional circumstances we may have to disclose information but we would make every effort to do this with your knowledge and agreement.
These exceptions are outlined in the BACP guidelines on confidentiality and are:
-
where there is risk of harm to yourself or others;
-
under the Prevention of Terrorism Act;
-
if the counsellor is subpoenaed or summoned as a witness in a Court of Law.
