Disability, Dyslexia & Learning Support Service

A confidential, one-to-one support service is provided for students prior to and throughout their University career by members of Student Services. The areas of support provided by the Disability Advisers include:

  • advisory visits to University prior to formal application
  • advice on diagnostic and needs assessments (including dyslexia)
  • assistance with application for the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA), see link to Directgov website
  • provision of note takers and communicators
  • recommendations on learning aids and enabling technology
  • information on disability benefits
  • links with outside agencies concerned with disability issues
  • advice on disability access
    disability awareness training.

Don't forget to apply for your Disabled Students' Allowance each year

When you apply for your student loan for next year don't forget to tick the DSA box to make sure your support continues next year.

If you are topping-up a foundation degree you will have to re-apply for DSA and provide evidence again.

If you received DSA last year for funding towards support workers, study skills tutors, computer equipment, book allowances etc, you need to apply again for 2011/12 to  Student Finance England.

You can download a copy of the DSA1 form here;
(DSA information is about halfway down the page).

Please let us know if you would like help completing the form.
