The Disability Team co-ordinates a Learning Support Worker service. Learning Support Workers are normally experienced students or graduates who provide support for Disabled students by note-taking in lectures, providing support in the Learning Centres and with accessibility for disabled students.
If you are interested in becoming a Learning Support Worker, or you feel you would benefit from such support, please contact our Learning Support Worker Co-ordinator Jemma Field on 01242 715309 or jfield@glos.ac.uk.
Guidelines on working with a note taker or learning support worker (LSW)
General notes
- All information between LSW and student should be kept confidential.
- It is your responsibility to inform your module tutors you will be using a note taker. Do not assume they will know.
- The LSW is not expected to ask questions on your behalf.
- Please let the Learning Support Worker Coordinator or Disability Adviser know if you're unhappy with the level of service provided by the LSW.
- There will be a review of each support arrangement after two weeks of regular support to ensure both parties are satisfied with the provision.
- Please contact the Learning Support Worker Coordinator or Disability Adviser if you're unsure about anything.
Procedural notes
- The LSW will contact you prior to your first regular meeting. You will need to exchange contact details and discuss the format of the notes should be arranged in conjunction with the LSW (double lined, highlighted, bullet pointed, word-processed etc).
- The LSW will wait outside the lecture room for you to arrive (except in specific circumstances). After 15 minutes, the LSW can leave if you do not arrive.
- If you are running late, please let the LSW know as soon as possible.
- If the LSW is late, they, in turn, should let you know.
- The LSW is not expected to take notes if you are not present or before you have arrived.
- Please inform the Learning Support Worker Coordinator or your LSW of any planned absences at least a week in advance. For unplanned sickness, please let the Learning Support Worker Coordinator or your LSW know as soon as possible. If your illness is due to your disability, the LSW will go to the lecture to take notes on your behalf.
Administrative notes
- You will be expected to sign the LSW's time sheet after each session.
