For students requiring language support for their academic writing, we offer:
- One to one appointments which can be booked through any Student Helpzone, Campus Library, Language Centre or by email
- Workshops in language development, writing skills and study skills advertised on the Student Achievement website - booked through any Student Helpzone, Campus Library, Language Centre or by email
For students who are non-native English speakers, through the Language Centre we currently offer:
- Taught undergraduate modules in English as a foreign language for students at levels 4 and 5.
- Taught sessions for students entering at level 6 and Postgraduate students.
Undergraduate Modules at levels 4 and 5
The two modules at level 4 aim to develop:
- your skills for report and essay writing, including understanding titles, planning, organising ideas and structuring academic writing as well as looking at grammar. vocabulary and tenses.
- language and specific academic skills in the areas of listening (including lectures), note-taking, reading and group presentations.
For Level 4 modules you need to have an English level between IELTS 5.5 and 6.
The two modules at level 5 aim to develop:
- language and specific academic skills in the areas of listening (including lectures), note-taking, reading and individual presentations.
- advanced academic writing skills. It includes analysing essay requirements, effective planning and organisation, critical evaluation and editing as well development of grammar, vocabulary and tenses
For Level 5 modules you need to have an English level between IELTS 6 and 6.5
Taught language support for Level 6 and Postgraduate Students
Taught sessions for level 6 and postgraduate students focus on academic writing, language development and study skills. They include analysing essay requirements, effective planning and organisation, critical evaluation and editing as well development of grammar, vocabulary and tenses.
