Institutes
The University recognises that applied research activity is often where the generation of new knowledge can most clearly make an economic and social impact in addition to individual pieces of research. Exemplary in terms of impact, the Countryside and Community Research Institute is the largest specialist rural research centre in the UK, with expertise in all aspects of research into policy and planning for the countryside and the environment of the UK, Europe, and further afield.
Social and economic impact, including research-informed external engagement and community activities, are also key parts of research activity. The University’s International Research Institute in Sustainability is increasing our research profile and achievements in the area of Sustainability as efforts focus on building interdisciplinary and socially relevant research.
