Research Degree Forms:
Forms required at various stages of your students' research degree can be accessed here or from the Postgraduate Research Centre. The RD1 form, used for registering the research proposal, is revised on a regular basis so please make sure you are using the most up to date version.
You may also find our guidance sheet on RD forms for students useful.
RD1: Application to register for a research degree
To submit your formal research proposal for registration to your Faculty Research Degrees Committee use the appropriate RD1 form:
RD1 MA MSc
RD1 MRes
RD1 EdD DBA
RD1 MPhil PhD
Other research degree forms
RD2: Application for Transfer of Registration from Degree of Master (MA/MSc/MPhil) to Degree of Doctor of Philosophy
RD3: Application for Extension of Period of Registration
RD4: Application for Temporary De-Registration
Please note that if your student is international and on a Tier 4 visa, they should read the Tier 4 information sheet and contact an international student advisor to discuss the visa implications of deregistering.
RD5 : Application for Change in Approved Arrangements for Supervision
RD6: Application for Change in Approved Mode of Study
RD7: Application for Change in Programme of Research
RD8: Application for Approval of Examination Arrangements

Approximately three months before your student is ready to submit their thesis for examination, please complete the RD8 approval of examiners form. If the form proposes an external examiner who has not been approved by the University before, please also submit their brief CV with the form. The completed RD8 should be sent to Sharon Brookshaw in DU110, Park campus, to be presented to URDC. You and your student will be informed via email once the examiners have been approved. Please note that a submitted thesis cannot be sent to examiners until they are approved by URDC.
