Welcome to the University of Gloucestershire’s Research Office webpage. The UoG Research Office is in place primarily to support the development of research at the University. The development, management and administration of research and research degrees at the University are carried out by a range of academic and support staff whose contact information you will find here as well as information about support available.  Research Matters

 

 The Research Office has three sections:

1. Central Research Development evolves research strategy, and promotes the profile of research. In more detail it oversees:

  • the operation of Research Development Group meetings
  • liaison on national matters with all external research agencies
  • the University response on all research and research-related activities
  • administration and coordination of Hefce research exercises (inc REF)
  • coordination of Researcher Training 
  • management of Research Budget and Budgetary Information 
  • administration of University Studentships and responsibility for dissemination of information concerning funding opportunities 
  • monitoring of national developments in research admin and management 
  • liaison with Faculty Heads pf Research. 
     

2. The Postgraduate Research Centre (PRC) offers administrative management of the research degree portfolio at University level, and at Faculty level in conjunction with Faculty Research Directors. It has overall responsibility for:

  • admissions and enrolment, induction, registration, changes in registration, academic progress monitoring and examination
  • the production of all University research degree-related handbooks and other documentation, including the Research Degrees Handbook of Regulations and Procedures, the Research Student Handbook, and Research degree Forms
  • management of the Research Student Records System
  • research administrative support for the Head of Postgraduate Research
  • generation of management information for a variety of external surveys, including those of the HEFCE and the UK Research Councils
  • administration of the taught elements of the Master of Research degree (MRes)
  • monitoring of the research environment for students (graduate research centres, ICT and other facilities)
  • co-ordination of the Research Supervisors’ Support Programme; committee support to the University and Faculty Research Degrees Committees, and the Research Ethics Sub-Committee (RESC).
     

3. The application for and management of European funding as well as some other opportunities is overseen by dedicated members of staff in the European Funding Office (EUFO).  You can also use these pages to access information and resources related to the general funding of academic research.
