An event which will bring together leaders and change agents seeking to make a difference through education and learning. |
The UNU RCE Severn is delighted to invite you to an event, led by Prof Geoff Scott, which will bring together international research on successful leadership and implementation of change in higher education.
Prof Geoff Scott is Executive Director of Sustainability and Professor of Higher Education at the University of Western Sydney (UWS). Prior to this role he was Pro Vice-Chancellor (Quality) and Provost at UWS. Professor Scott is an internationally recognised expert in the area of leadership and quality improvement in education. He has led and studied major change and leadership programs in schools, post-secondary and higher education within Australia and in a range of overseas countries including South Africa, Cambodia, New Zealand, Canada, USA and Scandinavia. His latest book on this work with Canada’s Michael Fullan is Turnaround Leadership for Higher Education (Jossey Bass, San Francisco).
Prof Geoff Scott will present and discuss the ambitious Turnaround Leadership for Sustainability Project which seeks to (i) define the capabilities which make an effective higher education leader for sustainability; and, (ii) produce resources to develop and enhance these leadership capabilities in the area of Education for Sustainability (ESD). The event will focus on the following key questions:
Q. What should be the key areas of focus in the work of university leaders of ESD?
Q. How successful leaders in this area judge that they are performing effectively?
Q. What professional capabilities underpin effective practice in this role?
Q. To what extent are the roles, effectiveness indicators and capabilities identified common across countries and higher education systems?
Q. What forms of professional learning and support are more or least productive for leaders of ESD in our colleges and universities?
Q. What resources can be used to develop and enhance effective academic leadership in higher education?
This UNU RCE Severn event is relevant to those engaged in leading change for sustainability in the higher and further education. It is also relevant for those involved in research in the areas of leadership and sustainability.
